Does a tattoo hurt?
Firstly, everyone has a different perception of pain so we cannot speak for you. The sensation is often described as a hot burning sensation. At the end of the day it all depends on how much you want the tattoo as to how you will cope with the discomfort! We do however have advice for how to reduce the discomfort which can be found on the following page: Will it hurt?
Can I have a tattoo when pregnant?
Can you cover colour with Black & Grey?
It is possible however we would usually recommend you have a course of laser removal to remove some of the colour pigment. We can recommend the best laser clinic to use. Take a look at our gallery to see some of our cover ups.
Do you do Laser Treatment?
We do not do laser however we know the best place to go! All of our clients use Shattered Ink in Bolton, even Adam himself is receiving laser treatment from Lizi so it comes with a personal recommendation. There are lots of places offering cheap Laser (as there are offering cheap tattoos) but do not trust these places. The wrong laser or the wrong treatment can permanently damage your skin, or at the very least it just will not work. Pay cheap, pay twice as they say. Saying this, Shattered Ink are extremely competitive and we think you will be pleasantly surprised by the price.
Where is the most painful place to have a tattoo?

Can I use numbing cream to make it hurt less?
In short, no. If we have reason to believe you have used a numbing cream we will not tattoo you. The reason being is for safety. Here are the reasons why:
- Local anaesthetic creams (numbing creams) are NOT LICENCED for use within the practice of tattooing
- After 20 minutes the effect wears off making the subsequent pain feel worse than if you had not used anything
- The ink cannot saturate the skin properly when numbing cream has been used, thus costing you more money in the long run as you will have to have more hours work to get the tonal saturation of the ink into the skin
- Due to the numbing effect and the lack of normal response from the skin the area can easily be over-worked during the tattoo process therefore increasing the risk of scarring and impeding the healing process

Can I have a tattoo if I am under 18 and have my parents permission?
No. The tattooing of those under 18 years of age is illegal within the UK, with or without permission from their parents. This is according to the Tattooing of minors act 1969, chapter 24, section 1.
Will you put ashes into a tattoo?
No, we do not do ash tattoos. This is due to the fact it does not come in line with Local Health Authority guidelines and furthermore the ash simply sinks to the bottom of the ink cup. Ashes are too larger particles to deposit into skin and so it does not work anyway.
